If I was not expecting rain until September I would not be putting anything on the grass to encourage growth. I would let it go dormant. Also seems to me that the micro-herd would just dry up.

OK, then I am still puzzled. rain or sprinkled water, it's still water dropping onto the surface, right?
So why not take whatever amount of castings you were going to dilute and just let the rain/sprinkler dilute them for you?
Mixing and spraying tea seems like extra work, to me.

I would try adding worm tea to a small patch and see how that goes. I take it your using fresh worm castings.

Allow me to clarify. If you use castings as a top dressing you have to "cover" the entire surface with castings. So, I have a 1/4 acre front yard, that would likely take around 50 or so pounds of castings to top dress my yard, whereas I can use about 5 pounds of castings to make 25 gallons of concentrated tea to use on the yard.
It is more efficient use of the castings, I dont want to use up all my castings on the grass. Also, I have seen better results from tea on my garden than doing the top dressing method.

And yes, I have over 100 pounds of worms, so I have plenty of fresh castings all the time, teaming with live micro-organisms.
