always leave the cover off keeps the critters in the diet/bedding. Feed any non meat or non dairy food that you would eat in addition to dried crushed leaves shredded paper as far as pH I never worried about it the worms convert it to neutral maybe I should have the best food I have found is any type of melons -musk- water or cantaloupe. If you really want to give them a boost feed a can or two of pumpkin pureeMOST OF ALL FEED ANY NEW FOOD IN MODERATION TILL YOU SEE HOW YOUR WORMN REACT

Wellsworms, I am so sorry to hear that you have given up on raising worms. I shall have to name one of my bins after you, so you can say you have a bin going strong in NC.

Well so far, so good.
I decided to stop messing with them so much. I also decided to keep the lid off from now on.
I added a bunch of old leaves, some fresh shredded paper, and an entire watermelon worth of rinds. So far, so good. No more escapes, and they seem to be munching away happily.
I got concerned due to zero activity, and today I peeked under the paper to make sure they were okay, and I found a huge worm-ball. I re-covered them quickly, in case that was a mating ritual.
I don't know if that is good or bad, but they were alive, so I'll guess it's good. Worm-balls ARE good, aren't they?
