I'm new here and very happy to find a good forum

I'm from South Africa and always wanted to try earthworm farming.

@ the moment I have 3000 very small red wigglers and would like to know how to correctly feed them. Because I don't have a very deep bed yet. I was wondering IF I can mix the fruit/Oat meal into the bed or should I just place it on top. I read here that to much oatmeal is not a good idea.

So my question can I mix deep/shallow or just place it on top

Place the food on top of the bedding in 1 small area ( in case it heats up) & cover the bedding with paper

What can I do if I have to much food, can I put it in a bin outside and feed it 3-5 days later ?

That's what I do.

Usually take one day each week and gather all my food scraps together, cut them into chunks and toss them in a 5 gallon bucket I keep outside until I need to feed. Then I just give it a good stir and feed my bins. If I have any left over in the bucket, I just save it until the next time I feed the worms.

Spending a few days in the bucket gives the food chunks a chance to begin breaking down before being introduced into the bin. Seems to make the food disappear faster. No complaints from the worms so far.

I just got 2x50kg bags of horse manure ! So I'm very happy as my biggest goal is to get my worm grown big and fat asap to reproduce because the worms are very expensive. But maybe need to get some more to speed things up

be patient you will have plenty shortly just keep them warm moist and fed .
