I use about 5-10% peat/castings mix and a healthy mix of shredded newspaper and cardboard and never have a problem. They also get a huge amount of dead organic vegetables from my wifes catering.

With that much paper/cardboard with the low percentage of peat. Does the paper/cardboard tend to matt up or clump together? Are you constantly turning the bedding to allow more air flow?

Well, I start with a good fluffing and I harvest pretty often and do not have any problems. It sometimes does clump up, but I check the beds often enough it is not an issue. I have had some bins that never touched for several months with no apparent issue. I think the key though is regular harvesting to insure no anaerobic conditions.

Sounds good. I was thinking about starting a small indoor bin with mainly newspaper for my kids and was curious if I could get by with a low percentage of peat. I have to get a newspaper for them to do homework every week so I think it will work out well.
