Worm education and outreach 6 Years ago Karma: 2
I was doing a preasentation at a sustainable living open house this weekend and was a bit surprised. Even with this "knowleadgeable" crowd, I heard the same old questions/comment:

1. Gosh, I thought it would smell bad.

2. Do you have bug/fly problems with indoor bins?

3. Is it really that easy to do?

Many had heard about worm compsoting, but never seen a bin in action.

This tells me that we still have a LOT of work to do to educate the public about the evils of the in-the-sink-disposal and benefits worm composting.

Rather than frustration, I am invigorated by this. I am pursuing other adult outreach and education opportunities and I encourage you to do so, too. Kids are great (and lots of fun to teach about worm composting!), but to get a bin in the home, I'm learning that you really have to convince the parents...
