Breeding Leaf worms 3 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm still very new at this worm farming thing. I guess my question is how do I breed and raise Leaf Worms for fishing bait? Like size of beds, feeding and how many? Any info is welcome. TWF

I don't know if I'll be much help, but this is what we do. We actually started worming with leaf worms. We just make windrows of leaves right on the ground. We keep the leaves wet. Kinda like "build it and they will come". We do throw some crushed corn and grass clippings on every once and while. The first year we didn't get enough to sell, but the following year we were able to start selling. In the spring we also find an abundance of them in our ef bins. Also, to subsidize our worms when needed, we go to the places where local communities dump leaves, usually find lots of free leaf worms.
Try to avoid too many oak leaves, they don't like them. We use approx. 30 pickup truck loads for 5-8 windrows that are about 8-10' long about 5' wide and pile em as deep as we can in the fall. By the end of Aug. they are pretty much decomposed. By that time we are pretty much done selling them.
Hope I've been of some help.
