Worm Tea on Grass? 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 6
I have been absent from the forum because we moved.
Our new house has st. augustine grass in pretty bad shape. I was thinking of making a HUGE batch of vermicompost tea and spraying on the yard but wondering if this would help grass?
Has anyone tried it on a lawn?
Thanks,
Liz

it can't hurt why not try a smal patch first before you waste all those castings

I'm curious.
Why would you not just shake a sieve of castings over the area and let the rain wash it in slowly?
It seems to me that you have to handle the castings; why add the work of making the tea?
Plus water is heavy stuff to lug around compared to castings?

I am in Texas, and we will likely not have any rainfall until late September.
Plus, you use a lot more castings with a top dressing method than you would making tea. My idea is to make it concentrated, not dilute it like I would for my edibles then water the tea in with my well water. I will do some experimenting with it when I get back from my brothers wedding next week. I will post pics.

Liz, thanks for the response.
I grew up in the West Australian goldfields, so I know about seasonal rain!
Will you do it experimentally, e.g four areas each receiving a different strength of tea?
You'd learn a lot that way, but could end up with a lawn whose pattern is visible from space!

That would be funny but I would be near impossible to do without marking the yard someway with spray paint or something.
No, my experiment will be simple, compost tea area and unfertilized area. Although my husband keeps threatening to put chemical fertilizer on the yard when I am not watching.
