I have had my worm bin for about 6 weeks now and it has been one problem after another (it doesn't help when your coworker brags about his perfect bin). I have a Worm Factory and I keep it in my garage, which temperature averages 75-80. I have only one bin filled with shredded newspaper for bedding. About a week ago I was searching around in my bin to look for the worms and they have disappeared except for a ball of worms I found in a corner. In addition the catch basin has about 3-5 worms a week dead with tiny white things around them and springtails, and it smells really bad down there. The bin itself doesn't really smell especially since I aerated it. I'm confused about what to do. Too wet? Too dry? Not enough food? I know it can't be too much food because I haven't put in that much since we've had major fruit flies, which is another problem and there are little white things on the bedding now. Any advised would be appreciated.
