I never knew blackstrap molasses and beer would be beneficial to your soil until I read this article. . .

It's interesting that before I discovered worm tea, I used a recipe of blackstrap molasses, beer, ammonia and dishwashing liquid on my lawn with a healthy sprinkling of wood ash throughout the winter. I am now using unsulphured blackstrap to mix in my water when I make worm tea.

Here is a link to an ebay store that sells some blackstrap molasses. I'm not associated with them but am buying my molasses from them. I read somewhere that unsulphered is best for the tea.

just type "molasses" in their search box

Post edited by: mitzi, at: 2007/10/13 22:21

this is interesting.......I have a 200gal skid sprayer and was wondering what kind of ratio would be needed? If I had a 1gal ratio mix I think I can figure out the rest. lol

Anybody got one?

1 c. molasses
5 oz castings
5 gal. water

200/5=40
1 c=8 oz
8x40= 320 oz
so about 2 1/2 gal molasses, 12.5 lbs castings for 200 gal water? Ask the experts, I'm just guessing from what I use. The ratio's may change for volume increase and my formula is just what I use.

I saw on a web site that shows how to make compost tea . It showed how to do it with an aquarium air pump in a 5 gallon pail with about 1 1/2 pounds of compost . http://dchall.home.texas.net/organic/teamaker/
Check it out and click on the link . It's a PDF file that shows step by step . He uses some pond water to get added microbes but I'm one pond short of a compost tea recipe . So I ordered some stuff (that should suppliment) from E-Bay that should be here next week . I have everything else soooo when it gets here I'm good to go . You don't need worm compost . Any compost will do but worm and rabbit are the top ones .
