Could you install a PM component. I use JIM, incorporated with FireBoard. They have integration with Joomlaboard (which you use). It allows direct contact between members without having to post threads, and without compromising user's e-mail addr.

For example. In a post, there was somebody who said they're about an hour away. I didn't have a way to contact the individual so I had to post my e-mail addr and the user contacted me that way. With a PM I could have just msged over and he could have chosen to msg back or not, and I wouldn't have had to show everybody my e-mail.

I'm not familiar with Joomlaboard, but like Fireboard, a lot of these integrated boards don't have the full features that full boards have (Invision, PHPBB, SM...something). Unfortunately.
