I have 3 plastic bins that are very well ventilated and for the past few months have been doing very well. One in particular was spectacular - lots of worms throughout, light and fluffy castings, good moisture content, temperature maintained between 60 and 70.
I checked the bin after Christmas and there was a little food left and the worms were looking great. Hundreds upon hundreds of them. More like spaghetti than worms. Then, I came back in one week and there was no food, and no worms. You heard me right - not a worm in sight. No corpses, no live ones, nothing. What's more bizarre is that there is no sign of escape. I found 5 or 6 on the floor (dessicated away), but no other sign whatsoever. The castings were very wet, smelly, and the batch was, as far as I could tell, ruined. Where in the world could they have gone???
Also, are there any off limits foods? I'm not putting anything weird in - potato peels, carrot peels, fruit and vegetable scraps, egg shells, banana peels, etc. etc. etc.
Any help???
