Howdy, nice forums here, but seem pretty slow...
Anyone know of other more active "Pro" forums out there? Tons of info for the home worm keeper, but a lot harder to find info for the small-medium business.
Seems there's an awful lot of secrecy and competition in this business, so maybe folks just don't like to share?

You could try.. thegardenforums.org
There are a few business folks there helping individuals with their start-up issues.
I have been doing this for 10 years now and except for a few unscrupulous types I have found most growers are very open and helpful.
I think most everyone is just very busy at this time of year.
I know I am.

Thank you, redhen. That's the most active vermicomposting forum I've seen yet.
Yeah, haven't found people to be unhelpful. It's just a bit tougher to find info on commercial worm growing, because the vast majority of stuff is targeted at home worm keepers. Especially on forums, conversation tends to be dominated by newbies. Nothing wrong with that, but boy do I appreciate it when folks do a bit of Googling first before asking the same questions all over again...

I have found some growers that are helpful and some that will not help. The best advice I can give is to call larger farms and talk to them. Some may help you and some might not. Some might even let you check out there operation. If they perceive you as being a threat to there business then they are not going to help. It's at least worth a try.
Yes, I believe there is definately secrecy and competition is a given. They don't like to share------ there MONEY.

I would say mikel is right. I know that we are almost always open to talk to people and give tours. But if the person comes across on the phone/e mail as pushy or wierd then I just say no. I dont mind a little competition and I know there is enough business out there all of us.
I also wish there were more "commercial" boards out there.
Now can anyone tell me when the change over occurred here on the message boards. No I have not been around in a while!
