2 months away from worms! - 2006/10/02 22:24 I know that the worms can survive without new food for
4 to 6 weeks, but I have to be away for TWO MONTHS!
I think a worm-sitter is out of the question, unfortunately. Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

Re:2 months away from worms! - 2006/10/03 02:42 Is bin indoor or outdoor? Size of bin? The best thing I can sugest is load up bin with peat moss and or cardboard. Both will hold moisture well and not go aerobic in a hurry. I feel the food is not realy the main problem especialy if you use these but you may have problem with retaining moisture while you are away

Re:2 months away from worms! - 2006/10/03 08:43 It's a stacking Worm Factory (16x16")and has two trays on at this point. It's outside, in the shade. I live in
Southern California, so it won't get too cold.

Re:2 months away from worms! - 2006/10/03 15:18 What depth is each layer. I presume these bins are of the type that have small holes holes in the bottom that thw orms crawl through to the next layer. Around the time you are due to go away how much hieght is left vacant in the layer you are on for bedding and food? It could be a problem if its due for a new layer while you are away.

Re:2 months away from worms! - 2006/10/03 21:49 Here is what I might do:
Put food and bedding in the second tray. Then load the top tray with shredded dampened newspaper or cardboard.
Really load that second tray with paper too, so that you do not have to concern yourself with the trays not being in contact with each other.
