Worm Harvester - 2006/06/09 08:14 Hi Y'all--I am wondering if there is anyone out there, East of the Mississippi, that might be looking for a harvester? If so, I have a really nice one that is looking for new home. Ginny

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/07/20 11:01 Hello, I am new to the site; in fact, I am new to vermiculture. I have just harvested my first batch of castings and have found it to be rewarding, yet tedious. Tell me about this worm harvester please, as I am unfamiliar with it.

By the way, my username has been inverted somehow and is actually nineandahalfacres.

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/07/20 16:07 Hi, My name is Ginny and I surely welcome you to the wonderful world of WORMS. I remember that experience of hand harvesting also!! that is when you just know that there has to be a better way. Hence, I bought a worm harvester. I have also discovered that this is a much younger persons job!! I'm really,at 73, just to old - so the worms are gone but the harvester is still here.

This harvester is a JET WORM HARVESTER Model nuber 2420. With the extras that are on this machine the new cost is $2,669.00 It was only used approximately 6 months and has been stored in an enclosed place ever since that time. It is motorized, made of aluminium, on wheels, easy to move, has a chute for loading, two sizes of screens ( 1/4th in. and 1/8th in., has paddles that keep the worms from just sticking to the sides. One person can move it anywhere- but needs to be plugged in to operate. I didn't purchase the aluminium side panels that are attached to the outside that direct the worm dirt -as well as worms -into catch bins below the machine. We had a couple of old closet panels that worked well for us. Those side panels sell for $167.00

You also need to know that this harvester is 103" Long- 36" Wide- 41" High (W/O Legs) and weighs 130 lbs. It has 2-36" Screens ( One of which we purchased as an extra) The paddles are installed inside of the barrel and the Chute is a separate item meaning that it isn't attached.

I am asking $1800 and if you bear the cost, I am willing to meet you at some approximate?? to a half way point. I live in Tenneese two hours south east of Nashville or one and a half hours north west of Chattanooga.

Sorry to chew you ear off, if there is any thing else that I can tell you just let me know. And I wish you extremely well with your worms.

Ginny

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/07/26 10:21 Ginny, while I am interested in the offer, I just can't put together such an amount just yet. I am also builing my homestead and that takes the funds I could otherwise use toward such a harvester. I instead will probably initially invest in a smaller home harvester.

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/07/26 23:13 Freddy- I noticed that on the section called"Machinery or Business??" That very thing was discussed and a web site noted that has such plans available. Might be worth your time to find that particular post. With only 6 sections on the forum it won't take you long to find. All of the posts are interesting and you won't feel that you wasted your time either. Ginny

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/09/30 21:11 Hi, I'm assuming that you have read my orginial post and therefore know what I was asking for this harvester. Sooo my question back to you is, make me a reasonable offer and let's see if there is a middle!

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/10/03 19:21 I would not want to hurt your feelings with an offer of what I would be willing to give for it as I just want it, I dont need it. I am getting up the stuff to build it now and don't plan to spend much more than a few hundred dollars. (I am in the junk business so material is cheap)I was just checking in case you really wanted to get rid of it as I come up to your area about once a month. You ought to list it on ebay. You might get a good offer from someone there for it. Thanks, William

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/10/03 22:34 Thank you for asking. If you hear of any one that is in need of a good harvester, please direct that person to my post and I thank you very much. I have a bit of doubt with listing it on eBay. There has been a really good deal on the 3600 model posted there for a very long time, although I have'nt looked for it just lately. I really think my best bet is the Worm digest magazine- my problem has been to get some one to return my calls. Thanks again-- Ginny

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/10/18 19:56 So has anyone used this 75.00$ system and what are there thoughts (postive/negative) on it.

I was thinking of buying it,but if its a waste of money or if there is a better investment(low funds though) that is reasonable cheap.

Any feedback appreciated.

Re:Worm Harvester - 2006/10/18 20:21 I just ordered this unit today. As soon as it comes, I will try it out and give you a full report here. I have been harvesting my castings with a strainer that my wife (against her better judgement) let me use. It worked ok, but took about 3 hours to harvest three bins. Wound up with a five gallon pail full of castings, so it was worth while.
