Re:Turning the bin - 2006/10/23 20:50
I have to be in my bin everyday to harvest worms to feed the fish. Will this effect my reproduction rates? I started with around 2000 redworms about a week ago and pull out about 50 a day so I am worried if me being in the bin a lot will reduce the amount of babies that I have, I will run out of mature worms before I get up to speed. I see a lot of cocoons, but no hatchlings yet. I pretty much received only worms, so I understand that I have a few weeks to go......right?
This is something that worm growers deal with all the time. If you are selling/using worms faster than they are reproducing, sooner or later you will have to stop taking worms from the bin and let them reproduce. I might suggest setting up some more bins. Some will be bins you will take worms from and some will be like nurseries. This may take some time to set up and have work, but it may be the only way to have an ongoing steady supply.
