I would make sure that you let the clippings sit a spell before they go into the bin.
I dont think that the chemical fertilizer will be a big deal once it has sat. If it is a big deal for your herd, you will know right away. Escapees, mass migration, so on...
As for consistent castings... What goes in, is what comes out. If you know what you are adding, and how much, then you can know what you are getting. As long as what you are feeding them is the same, or at least the same make up (carbon:nitroge ratio, similiar paper types, same amounts, etc.) you should be confident that each harvest will be the same.
