Summertime Bigtime Difference - 2008/06/06 10:36 First of all I have moved my bins from basement to garage. This means that I am free from fruit fly worry. I figure I let them go til I harvest casting just before I bring them downstairs for the winter. funny thing is that I haven't seen any fruit flies lately anyway.

The best news is that the warm weather definitely makes a big difference in worm feeding habits. They swarm over food in the warm weather and they are noticebly bigger in size. I can now add food without waiting til previous additions have been depleted.

Re:Summertime Bigtime Difference - 2008/06/06 21:12 Yepper - warmer temps get the microherd crankin' on any chow intro a lot quicker than in house-regulated temps. Mo' wormie-tasty, mo' faster.
Seen any BSFL out there yet?

Re:Summertime Bigtime Difference - 2008/06/07 08:26 hey dude,

Don't know what bsfl stands for but I have noticed a bunch of tiny white worms. But I'm not worrying about any of that vermin until late fall. I even stopped microwaving the food for the summer. Looking forward to some top microherd laden tea for my garden. As a matter of fact I have a special treat as a reward for the gang this morning of a papaya that went bad on me. I wonder if I let that happen as a psycholical thing?

Sorry. BSFL = black soldier fly larvae. Voracious l'il buggers often found in outside bins. Do a Google Images search for pics.

Hehe. I don't feel near as bad anymore when I find some science project in the fridge. I know it is going to a better place .
