Posting worms - 2006/01/17 22:15 Hi from Australia.
I have recently got into worm farming, and am at the stage where I am ready to sell and need to come up with a way of posting out worms to customers.

My idea is to use cocopeat, a calico bank bag (zip tied) and some sort of box. The 'some sort of box' is the issue. What do people use to box bagged worms? I was thinking of a waxed box, however I don't seem to be able to track down the right size box. I know lettuce boxes are waxed, but they tend to be huge.

Any packaging ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Re:Posting worms - 2006/01/18 02:55 Hi, Paul. We ship a lot of worms by mail. The United States Postal Service furnishes free boxes in various sizes, tape and labels for their Priority Mail service. However, I understand you're in Australia, and services are different. The point is, these boxes are not waxed, or even very heavy..just use regular cardboard boxes just large enough to hold your bag of worms...Seeya, Bob www.trinity-ranch.com

Re:Posting worms - 2006/01/18 04:10 Hi Bob,
thanks for the advice. Does the cardboard box tend to draw out the moisture from the bagged worms or do you put something between the bag and the cadboard?

Best regards

Re:Posting worms - 2006/01/19 06:33 Nossir, it doesn't seem to. In really cold weather,I've sometimes cushioned with ground paper to insulate, but then we don't ship em real wet anyway. Seeya, Bob www.trinity-ranch.com
