Building a large worm bin - 2008/08/10 07:11 I would like to build a large worm bin for my organic farm. Can anyone steer me to a web site with good ideas or plans? Ron

Re:Building a large worm bin - 2008/08/10 17:57 We need more info Ron.

How big are you talking about?
How much casting do you need?
What is yor feedsourse?
Wood plastic?
Flow through?
Where do you live?
Are temps a factor?

If you want a good answer for your situation we need to know more.

Re:Building a large worm bin - 2008/08/12 06:37 OK here are the specifics. Our farm is in western Panama near Costa Rica so the climate is tropical. The area we will start with is 10 x 20 divided into 4 bins with 2 each connected. The preferred building method here is cement blocks. The site is on a concrete pad with a slope. The feed source is organic plant material and possibly horse manure. Anything else you need to know?

Thanks in advance.

Re:Building a large worm bin - 2008/08/12 20:10 I don't know how detailed of a plan you need for a worm bed or if you want a lid or non-lid model. You might look at http://agalternatives.aers.psu.edu/Publications/earthworm.pdf which is an a 4 page booklet put out by Penn State on Earthworm Production. It has a line drawing of a bed made from concrete blocks.
