Frozen worms - 2006/01/11 15:23 I just moved from Montan to California.
Packed up the ero's that I have had in the basement for four years and put them in the back of the pickup.
Well i forgot to bring them in the hotel the first night and the temp droped below 0 and froze the bin solid.

Not one live worm but I have lots of eggs.
How cold can these eggs get before they are done also?

Thanks
Michael D

Re:Frozen worms - 2006/01/11 15:35 Michael..I think these cocoons will stay dormant and when things warm up, you will slowly be up and running again. I might relocate them to somewhere above freezing, if possible. Susan Quinby-Honer

Re:Frozen worms - 2006/01/11 15:52 Michael, Susan is exactly right. Get your bins ready just like you would for new worms, spread what you have left, and manage just like worms were in there...before long you'll have worms..Seeya, Bob www.trinity-ranch.com

Re:Frozen worms - 2006/01/11 22:41 I was hopeing that they would be dormant.
No problem here in Cali about above freezing temps.

It was a real sad site to see those frozen worms.
I had them in a clear plastic container and they had moved out to the outside like they will do in a new environment.

Bob, thanks for the imput. I started these from a pound that I purchased from you. Don't know how many I gave away but they cought alot of fish and enriched many gardens.
thanks
Michael D.

I will give an update on the new worm bin from eggs.

Re:Frozen worms - 2006/01/12 05:17 Well, Michael, other than this 'glitch' it sounds like your worms have been a very positive experience. They'll come back, I believe. Please do keep us up dated. Seeya www.trinity-ranch.com

Re:Frozen worms - 2006/01/26 17:51 Well I lost patience and got two more pounds of euros from a friend.
Still have all the egg capsules in the bedding but will never know if they would have come back.
Food scraps were taking over.

The white worms or pot worms made it through just fine as well as all the mites.
