VC for indoor plants - 2009/04/17 08:06 I'm about to harvest compost from a bin I've had going for several months. For the first time, I don't need any of it for my outdoor garden. So I'm thinking of using some as a topical dressing for some of my wife's indoor house plants.

From all I've read, I think that will be really good for those plants, too. I'm only concerned about little critters that may hatch or mature from the compost and be a nuisance in the house. I do my composting out-of-doors, so I know I probably have several kinds of insect eggs and larvae in the compost.

Is there something I should do to the compost before I bring it in to the house? Something like microwaving it, perhaps? Something that will kill those insect eggs and larvae without diminishing the nutrient value of the compost?

Re:VC for indoor plants - 2009/04/17 13:21 Let it set out for a couple of weeks in a tupperware. If there are any eggs of any kind in there that would take care of it. Also you can just put some in five gallons of water a day before you water your plants and use it a plant food that way. you can use the wet casting after that as a top dressing because they will still have plenty of nutrients left in them.
