In reading, I think worms do not get disease. Something you may be seeing is a condition known as "protein poisoning", which is a build-up of acid within the bedding, caused by the decomposition of the food. If a lot of food was added at once, it could cause this. I would, no matter what, add some fresh bedding. When feeding your bin you should be careful not to mix the food in with the bedding. Sometimes this can happen if you were to be poking around in the bin or harvesting a bin that had just been fed.
