Can you tell me if this is normal worm behavior? - 2006/03/01 00:40 I've only had my bin a few weeks, so I still basically don't know what I'm doing. In the last week or so, every time I take the lid off the bin to check on them or put food in, there are a dozen or so worms "hanging around" on the sides and the lid of the bin. There are no bad smells, so I'm hoping it's not because the bedding is bad or too wet or something. It just seems weird that they'd be there instead of where the food is. They didn't do that the first week, so that's why it seems weird to me. Is that normal, or do you think there's some sort of a problem?

Re:Can you tell me if this is normal worm behavior - 2006/03/02 10:05 Hi, Deanna. As long as they can stay out of the light, they'll 'take a stroll' in the condensation inside your bin, and move in and out of the food and bedding...it's normal. Seeya, Bob www.trinity-ranch.com

Re:Can you tell me if this is normal worm behavior - 2006/03/03 09:51 Hi everyone, I've noticed that when a low pressure weather system moves in or in other terms rain, alot of my worms will move to the lid and walls of my bin. I've read that this is a normal response of the worms natural instincts to get away from flooding rains. They are very sensitive to barometric pressure. I no longer worry when I see this and when the storm passes they all retreat back into the bedding after a while. Hope this helps you out. I also will spray my bins with rain water so the worms can feel like they're in their natural environment. TOM
