Side dressing veggies - 2006/06/04 08:31 I use large containers now for most of my gardening ventures. I have my tomatoes in what are the equivalent of half a 55 gallon barrel. (One plant per barrel.) What will be the best way to side dress these plants with my vermicompost? I will be dividing my bins next month I think, and hopefully I will have enough compost for the maters at least.

Re:Side dressing veggies - 2006/06/04 10:15 I just put it around my tomato plants (after pulling back the mulch) and then move the muclh back over. WormMainea.com

Re:Side dressing veggies - 2006/06/04 10:24 Well that sounds easy enough. I wasn't sure if I would have to mix it in the soil, or just lay it around the plant.

The plants are really looking good which I will attribute to putting the castings in the trenches when I transplated them, but I know they are going to need more as the growing season progresses.

Re:Side dressing veggies - 2006/06/05 17:00 glowery..You do not have to use a lot of vermicompost. If you have a few TBS, just add it to a gallon jug of water and use it to water the plant. Your tomatoes will love it. Susan Quinby-Honer
