In my opinion, worm composting is for reducing one's contribution to the waste stream and to produce food for the soil. If in doing so you breed some worms and can sell them to spread the concept, then that's great. I've come to the conclusion that people who see this as a get rich quick scheme or an alternative to getting a job are soon disappointed. Worm farming is FARMING-- pay to work ratio is LOW and there are no guarantees.

So true... if that's what one is expecting, one will be quickly disappointed... even more so after having paid over 2000$ for a "worm incubator". (One should do some calculations on how much worms you need to grow to recupe the cost of that thing!)

And you only get 5 pounds of worms in the starter kit which seems pretty small for such fairly large "incubator". So you'd porbably best buy some more worms if you start out with container of that size.

That same person claimed he'd be willing the worm business to his daughter. You'll also find claims that $10.00 a lbs worms are worth it because of branding...compared to McDonalds/hamburgers by way of example.

Making money via worms have been going on for years. Some are far more honest/legit than others.

 Re:worm incubater - 2009/12/09 01:53 Has any one used one of the fiberglass worm bins from ECOLOGY TECHNOLOGY? These things are a pile. Very hard to maintain. When you try to mix the soil up the vents come out of the bottom. You cant use a shovel or anything to mix the compost without damageing the thing. The worm poop shinks to the bottom and the worm start to surface and stop breeding. The heater in this thing sucks. I think I spent more on my power bill then any thing. I also heard that there is a fiberglass releaser on the fiberglass that can get in the compost. The incubator also fills up with water and then it stinks so bad. Ive seen more mice and rodents come out of the incubator then any thing. I talked to the owner of ECOLOGY TECHNOLOGY a few times but I pretty sure he was pretty drunk. No help at all. And who buys worms? I dont want to deal with Dave any more I think he is full of crap like his ECOLOGY TECHNOLOGY worm incubator.
