New Suggestions - 2005/09/17 18:41
Hey Worm Digest Editors,
This is my favorite new website on the internet. Is there a place on your website where I can post pictures? I would like to share with everyone what earthworm castings have done for my garden.
I love the new site. Keep up the good work.

Hello -
I have to second the comments on the site. It is a breeze to look at. I'd also ask a question about the old site.
Is there a way to look at the back issues of the Digest itself? There are a few articles I would like to review.
I'm very glad to be able to get back to a healthy Worm Digest.
Cheers!

To Administrator of this website;
This one great website and with the people involved I only see it getting better. I think it is terrific that the powers to be have broadened their focus in explaining how earthworms touch on so many topics relating to everyday events. I have a tech question for the Administrator running this website.
Do you think we could ever get a chat area on the website for realtime online discusion so as to not only host qualified experts answering questions but to open up discussion for a variety of topics regarding these forums?
Also, what about a Calendar of Events in the menu area to notify the frequent visitors of special events planned in the near future?

Some more questions for the Admin of these forums???
Could you please explain to us about the karma number rating after someone posts?
Also, I noticed that the news articles on the Home Page have a rating scale. What is that all about?

Mr. Administrator,
Is the Worm Digest going to sell products on this website? If so, will you have a shopping cart? How will you accept payment?

Is Scooter the Admin or are they different people?
My question is what the heck is that syndicate box with RSS boxes in the lower right hand section of the home page?

Sure, check out the navigation bar on the left and click on "Archived old site". The info from the old site is there.
Do you think we could ever get a chat area on the website for realtime online discusion so as to not only host qualified experts answering questions but to open up discussion for a variety of topics regarding these forums?
Also, what about a Calendar of Events in the menu area to notify the frequent visitors of special events planned in the near future?
You can find both of these on the navbar un "Chat" and "Calendar of events". Feel free to look around them.
Could you please explain to us about the karma number rating after someone posts?
Also, I noticed that the news articles on the Home Page have a rating scale. What is that all about?
For karma, it is a ranking of how beneficial that poster is. If you think a person is writing good things, click on the thumbs up... and if not, the thumbs down. This'll give an indication of each poster.
The rating scale on news articles is available so you can rank how useful the news article is. If you like it, give it a high rank...
Is the Worm Digest going to sell products on this website? If so, will you have a shopping cart? How will you accept payment?
Yes, we will have a shopping cart soon enough. Payment will be available via paypal or credit card.
How can I download an icon next to my name?
This icon is called an avatar. To setup your avatar, go to the following area... click on "My profile" above these posts, click on that and then click on "change my avatar". On the avatar page click browse to find a image on your pc to upload, or choose one of the images in the gallery.
Is Scooter the Admin or are they different people?
My question is what the heck is that syndicate box with RSS boxes in the lower right hand section of the home page?
No, I am just the systems operator and web guy. The admin is a creature we like to call "The Stig". He is kept out in the shed and eats raw meat. Some say that he has no soul.
The syndicatinon box has a set of xml and rss links. If you use a RSS reader (such as bloglines.com or bottomfeeder) you can plug these RSS links into that reader. Whenever a new news item is posted you will see it pop up in your RSS reader.

Scooter,
You are THE MAN! Thank you for answering questions. It is good to know that there is a help desk watching over the website.
I guess judging from the Admin's housing location and his spartan diet, maybe it is not a good idea to bring out The Stig. LOL
Out of curiosity, what function does the Admin serve on this website?

Hey scooter,
When I pushed the Bookmark Us tab on the Home Page, nothing happened. Is this function working?

Dear Scooter,
I love your name. It reminds me of when I was thirteen and riding a skateboard down the street with my favorite childhood friend.
Never change your name. It is sooooo fun.
I was wondering how do I use the image gallery in the main menu on the Home Page? I want to post some pictures.

The admin will be installing software, and will only be brought out in the case of an emergency.
(He sets up other people to be editors and sub-admins.)
When I pushed the Bookmark Us tab on the Home Page, nothing happened. Is this function working?
This button only works for IE (which we figure most people are using, justly or not). In firefox or mozilla, use Ctrl-D.

Click on Image Gallery: Worm Digest Images to view the items in the WD gallery. There will be other images over time.

Can we get rid of the frames while in the forums. That blank space along the left side of the screen is a waste and compresses the width of the forum posts.

I agree that there's something odd about how the forum displays--on my screen it doesn't all seem to fit quite right. But that's a very small quibble! It really looks great.
I hope we can start to collect websites, blogs, etc. where people are posting pictures and information about earthworms and their composting endeavors. There just hasn't been one good spot where you can go find this kind of thing.
Anyway, best of luck--great to see this up and running!

Can you describe what you're seeing in more detail? I'm not sure what you are describing.

The navbar items are stuck to every page as part of the content management system. It isn't currently practical to remove it.
Sorry

Scooter -
Please help! The site looks great on Firefox on the PC. But, when I was using Internet Explorer on the PC the Home Page was crazy with extra white space. Can you fix this?

I heard the Admin guy is called Stig and kept out in the shed. Is he out there in the winter as well? Is he the one responsible for the Insectivore woman's picture? I think she should replace the liver colored worms in the Worm Digest heading. How about it?

It's fixed now. The fontsize selection used in the poll box was causing it to overgrow it's boundries... which then pushed the main content of the home page over and down.

I find the new forum difficult to read.
The type is too small, and the lines are too close together.
But it is looking god otherwise.
