Pesticide / Herbicide effects - 2007/04/07 11:44 Hi everyone! I'm still learning to navigate around this site, and I appoligize if someone else has already posted this topic. This is my biggest concern and I feel compelled to speak out!! I'm just like all of you out there - I recycle EVERYTHING, only one bag of garbage per month, I grow a massive organic garden, and I use my worms to compost scraps. I have worked on a small fruit farm for 9 years, and my biggestconcern in this whole world is herbicide and pesticide use. Do you know, there is not one worm to be found where they spray pesticides on this farm? On the high - low blueberry bushes, however, we mulch these with bark and the plants are fed with soybean meal in the spring; no pesticide or herbicide applied - tons of worms under the bark munching away on the meal. I used to help with the spraying, but one year I didn't feel very well after the spraying so I looked very closely at the pesticide label...let's just say someone else does that spraying job now. keep in mind this is a small farm with limited pest/herb use! Please don't get me wrong, because I have a hugesoft spot for the farmers, esp. the two gentle old souls I work for, I just wish more effort would go into research for organic peticide and herbicides!! Fact: chemical fertilizers weaken plants! Fact: the nutritional levels of our food is 50% lower now than it was 50 years ago!! No wonder the vitamin pill companies are making a mint. The way I figure it, if I have to dust MY potato plants with potato bug killer - I'll buy my potatoes from the store!! Just take a look at your own tomato plants that you grow this summer in your garden with your worm poo. Look how healthy they are!! And the taste?? I'd like to know WHAT comes out of a worm's hind end that makes fruits and veggies taste so sweet!! My lawn is covered in dandelions and clover; they are beautiful and offer the humming birds and bumblebees food. It seems crazy to me that people pay good money to have a company come in and spray toxins on their place to kill flowers!!! I appoligize if I've offended anyone here, I'm just very passionate about the topic. If anyone of you out there has a comment or story to share, (good or bad) I would love to hear from you.....

Re:Pesticide / Herbicide effects - 2007/04/07 14:19 I truly think that all the chemicals that are put on our food is what is causing all the cancers and stuff the steroids cause all the children to mature eariler so i totaly agree . seams the gov is trying every way to keep us from growing and raising our own food ,trying to prevent us from being healthy .
They want us to keep paying big industry .
We don't necessarily need to save the world , it will survive in spite of us .WE is what we need to save !!!
