Newsletter? - 2005/11/06 16:16 Hello Everyone,

I love this site and I love reading RedHen's posts. I was just wondering if or when the Worm Digest was considering getting back to a quarterly newsletter?

Re:Newsletter? - 2005/11/07 20:50 Hey Sexy Tater,
I think this site is amazing. How about that story of the student infecting the worms with a virus in order to determine what cells a virus uses to pass it on, genetically, like hoof and mouth disease?
The poor worms...
But I can tell you the Worm Digest will be published quarterly started 2006 and it's already underway.

Re:Newsletter? - 2006/08/20 00:13 I read on the Home Page that Worm Digest is presenting Writer's Guidlines. I attended journalism classes when I went to school.

The Writer's Guidelines article must mean WD is getting reading to publish their newsletter. They clearly describe subject departments and requirements.

I think everyone that posts in these forums should look closer at the Guidelines article. From what I have read and learned in these forums, everyone has at least one good story specific to one of these identified subject headings.

It appears that WD is looking for stories related to earthworms regarding general interest, research, business, education and environment.

I am going to submit an article to the editor.

I strongly urge all of you forum participants who read this post to do the same. With all of our participation, this newsletter should be fabulous.

I would love to see a personal story from most of you.

Re:Newsletter? - 2006/08/20 11:15 Hi Ms. Sexy Tater,

Great news! We can't wait to see your submission. Worm Digest will launch it's maiden vogage from Cleveland as an online magazine. It will be available from the store and will be downloaded directly into your e-mail.
It has taken us a lot longer to get started than what we originally anticipated last year! Now that we have the green light and a new editor, Yu-Ting, the newsletter is getting ready to sail. We are looking forward to seeing your article, especially from your personal point of view.

Re:Newsletter? - 2006/08/21 10:09 Hi everyone,

This is Yu-Ting Lin, editor of Worm Digest. I am so looking forward to your article and I believe with all your inputs and participation, WD is going to be fantastic and attractive.

The first draft deadline is Sept. 15, 2006. Please indicate which department the article belongs to.

By the way, I am also looking for California correspondents who might be willing to cover a story near Sonoma Valley. If you live near that area and are interested in contributing your talent to WD, please email me and I can give you some more details about the story idea.

Worm rocks!

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/01/20 23:22 Ms Sexy Tater,

Well they did it. And they did it well. I just signed up for two years. I am getting two hotel travel certificates and I am going to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Thank you EarthWorm Digest.

The new newsletter is great.

I hope everyone signs up and you can come to Las Vegas with me. I am going to dance on tables. Woo Hoo!

I am going to do the earthworm dance. Wiggle, wiggle!

I love you all,

Wiggly Girl

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/01/20 23:36 Why Hello Wiggly Girl,

I am going to Las Vegas also. Let's hook up! I bought the annual subscription to EarthWorm Digest.

I think the next issue will be the awesome cross over issue for Earthworm Digest. It will put them on the global map. I heard and read today their cover story is about earthworms possibly curing cancer. Wow! I can't wait to read that story.

So. . . girl that shakes and wiggles. . . are we on for Las Vegas?

I saw a camisole in EarthWorm Digest store that said, "Wiggle". Are you going to wear that in Las Vegas? Inquiring minds want to know.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/20 22:42 Hello UncleBubba,

I looked into your question and found out your EarthWorm Digest magazine that you receive is quarterly. You said the last one that you received was in January.

The next issue was due was in March and then June and September. I checked for you and the March issue was delayed because of two reasons. One, their was a change at the Editor position of the magazine and two, some very timely cancer research information regarding earthworms was gathered for the issue. The issue is finished and you will receive it next week. Please accept our apologies for the delay, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the information.

The June issue is right behind the cancer issue and has an international flavor. The June issue will focus on the international workshop which was conducted in Coimbatore, India during the first week of this month. It was a very important event and the world's foremost authority's attended. You will get a first hand glimpse of who attended and what they talked about.

You will have both issues before the end of the month. Then, you will be right back on schedule.

The long awaited resource page has been finished for awhile. The girls in the office had to check and double check the sources. It will be available for free to all of the magazine subscribers next week. Everyone else will have have to pay for the information. It took a year to compile and the office staff had to start from scratch.

The EarthWorm Digest will also begin to post a calendar on the left side menu of the Home Page of the website, beginning at the end of this month.

This calendar will give everyone who visits the site an idea of all of the upcoming earthworm events around the world.

Hopefully, we can meet some day at an event that would be enjoyable for all of us to attend.

We all enjoy reading your posts on the forum. Thank you again for your participation.

Why on Earth would you want people to have to pay for that information?
The other lists of resources for worms, (such as cityfarmer.org and NC State's NC Worm Growers resource page), is made available to all for free, just to help newcomers find a grower nearer to where they live. It is a missing piece to this website, but not something I would pay for.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/21 17:01 I agree, the resource page is a missing attribute and the need will be fulfilled within the next week. However, the couple dollars it will cost are incredibly worth it. It is the most accurate resource page out there, and almost all others I have come across are an incredible 85-90% wrong. It seems that they don't keep up or just copied and pasted from other inaccurate sites.

The reason this resource page has taken so long is that several people have dedicated many many MANY hours to it, perfecting it. Every resource on there, as of right now, is accurate, up to date and available to you. We have called every person and company and spoken with them to make sure that we are not giving out false or inaccurate information.

Also, please don't forget that Earthworm Digest is a non-profit organization and every penny that comes in, goes right back out to you, our faithful members and subscribers.
Please feel free to send me your questions. I'll try to answer them all.

Okay..this is the hardest part, I believe, in cyber-space..
I love this web site and post here frequently.
I appreciate the re-checking for up-to-date information about businesses still in business.
I do not understand charging forum members for this information.
If I was being charged for this information, I would expect WD to stand behind the information and the grower, and be giving their recommendation.
The other lists, I mentioned previously, do not charge and do not endorse the sites. It is left to the buyer's decision.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/22 21:36 redhen,

First of all, may I say I am a big fan of yours. Your insight and contributions to these forums are fabulous.

You have enlightened me on several occasions. Please never stop. You are greatly appreciated.

I also know the individuals behind this website are totally open source and believe as you do in sharing in reliable information as you do in cyberspace.

It is obvious on the information that is uploaded to the website.

Without naming names, the other lists that were previously mentioned are pretty much worthless. I know this to be a fact because I personally attempted to contact some of the sources on these lists. It was pretty bad and a colossal waste of time.

When I first heard the EarthWorm Digest was putting together a list, I thought to myself, excellent!

When I heard they were charging for the list. I thought the same as you did. But, I have to tell you, I am going to reserve my comments until I see what they charge.

I'll tell you why. I will be the first to confess. I am a very busy guy, as probably everyone else is out there who visits this website. I have been visiting this website for the last two years. I read the articles, from time to time and I post on the forums. I have learned alot from people like you and others on this website. The site has continued to get better and I think the main person behind it is very passionate.

But you know what? Don't laugh too hard. I believe in this Karma thing. I have never given back. I have never subscribed to their magazine. I know they have a staff. We all know that there has to be costs involved.

I read earlier here in the general earthworm forum, about a couple of guys who did not like the separate forums. I actually laughed out loud. Forgive me, but common sense tells me, isn't it a good thing for separate forums?

The Digest doesn't pepper me with emails. I think I received one email from them when they launched their store and magazine. I thought the magazine was pricey. But that's me. Call me cheap. I did not check into it. My friend subscribed and they gave him two nights in a nice hotel for subscribing. He said it was worth every penny. He said he would do it again. I'll subscribe in July.

Don't get me wrong. This is not a commercial. Look around us. You can tell. These people are good people. Redhen, if they ask alot for the list, out of silly pride I will be right here next to you in this forum, telling the world, "I am not buying it."

But, if they ask a reasonable price, I'll buy it. Hey redhen, just think if they only ask a couple of bucks. We can both laugh about my post. (Meaning I am off the hook for two dollars. Hey, I am giving back. It's all good. It's karma. Ha-Ha)

It will be my way of saying thank you for taking the time to assist me. I think I am getting to the point that I really want to know who is doing what in the industry.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/23 11:46 I think it would make more sense to charge the businesses to be listed, as it is of great value to them to be on it.
How would a member know if that list is going to help them or not? With all the free lists, why would one pay?
.......Just a suggestion.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/27 13:02 I guess I must be one of the last people on earth that believe any promises made about anything dealing with worms on the internet.

The first worms I ordered about a year ago were not what I ordered.

I subscribed to a newsletter from a website called vermico.com last june and they sent me 1 of the old issues and never sent me anything else. They have not answered emails and have not refunded my money.

I was an early subscriber to the Worm Digest Newsletter, recieved 1 issue that was very nice and nothing else.

I signed up on wormsecrets or whatever it is called and enjoyed it for a couple of days and then was told they wanted a hundred dollars.

NO MORE. I like many before me will not pay for anything else.

Re:Newsletter? - 2007/06/27 22:58 Hello Uncle Bubba,

Well, it's no news to me that earthworm wranglers are made of flexible stuff.

I'm here in the offices of EarthWorm Digest and we are so bummed that the magazine is just a little too big to send as a download. Otherwise you'd have it right now. The admin is working as I type to create a link and the information will be available, just one more day.

The good news is that the Summer Issue will be ready right on the heals of Spring. I'm sorry for my part in the delay. I encourage perfection and grudgingly accept reality. I could try a quote or something right now, like Life is What Happens to You as You're In the Middle of Making Plans for Great Things...

All I can say is, you gotta love the process just like you love the one you're with and root for the underdog, or it's just a road not barely travelled on...

I hope you like the Spring issue and I hope every day of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter love is shown to you!
