Commercial Vermicomposting - 2007/07/10 22:08 Hello All,

I have one question. I have been reading about all of the different species of earthworms. Would you say that the eisenia fetida is the most preferred species for vermicomposting in larger business practice?

Re:Commercial Vermicomposting - 2007/07/11 09:06 Hey Tater,

There are several species as good and maybe better than eisenia fetida that can be used in your home bin and in commercial business.

Eisenia are primarily used because there has been substantiated science backing their results.

Later Tater,

Re:Commercial Vermicomposting - 2007/07/14 12:58 Thank you Kaiser,

I have been reading further and learning quite a bit. It appears that the best way to begin a commercial earthworm business is to first check what species is indigeous to your location.

There are some compost earthworms that are not as popular, but by being diligent, one can begin their business venture with earthworm composters from their own area.

This is fabulous. It is the responsible thing to do without adding to the native, non-native moral dilemma discussion.

Re:Commercial Vermicomposting - 2007/08/27 12:46 you can also use eisenia hortensis, although reproductive rates are different and heat tolerance is more narrow. These are bigger and can be used for fish bait davycanuck-raising fetida since April 2007
