Containers for Kitchen Scraps - 2007/07/15 09:16 Hi,

Newb here -

Just curious. What do you use collect kitchen scraps to feed your worms?

I've seen 1 advertised for 19.95 + shipping, but I think that something comprable can be built for less.

We are a family of 2 adults. Very shortly I will start weighing and recording how much worm food we produce so I can get an idea about how big or small a population we can sustain.

I am also in a two person household and a real low tech type of person. The only thing I've been using for the past year is a plastic 1 gal paint container purchased from Lowe's. It has a snap-on lid and holds my weekly generaton of kitchen scraps. If I happen to generate more than that I dump the scraps into an old 5 gal bucket. The bucket also comes n handy for mixing the kitchen scraps with my grain based worm food.

Re:Containers for Kitchen Scraps - 2007/10/06 08:41 Hey guys I recycle the red plactic cans coffee comes in at my office for kitchen scraps. I compost outside in a wood pallet bin. I use kitchen scraps, grass clippings and as many bags of leaves I can fit in my trunk and bring home in the fall.

Re:Containers for Kitchen Scraps - 2007/10/08 13:47 Like Buddy said, I am also a Keep It Simple Stupid, kinda guy. I use an old ice cream bucket. It's about 1 gallon I think. Once thats full it goes into compost. The next time I turn the pile, what has not broke down gets mixed with my worm chow... Soups on boys!

Re:Containers for Kitchen Scraps - 2007/11/04 23:34 i use an old cardboard 1/2 gallon milk carton its waxed on inside but that doesnt hurt worms and also can be closed easily to keep smell in sometimes it hard to find but orange juice carton works well when it gets used up just toss and get a new one really helps with the smell
