Re:Michigan Winter Question - 2005/12/01 00:31
I am not in a region as cold as yours, but a couple of years ago I had an old drink box with worms in it. I put a piece of plastic over the top of it and I put a 25 watt light bulb into a 3 pound coffee can and buried most of the can in the bedding. The bedding was paper and leaves with a very small amount of peat moss. I didn't pay much attention to it but did throw some food in every now and then and I checked about once a week to make sure the bulb had not burned out. Finally about the end of March I decided to move the box and when I started digging around, I found large numbers of nice fat worms. Not only did they survive, they multiplied and that box wasn't even in a shed, it was sitting out under the trees.
