Under-sink food separator - 2007/12/24 23:28 I was wondering if anybody has used an under-sink food separator? I wanted to put a link on here to the product, but it seems that composters.com have removed it from the inventory. And I can't find it ANYWHERE on the web. I did find a picture, which I think is it.

Anyway, the thing goes under your sink and attaches inline after your garbage disposal. When you put food down the sink, the garbage disposal does its thing and grinds up the food. This thing centrifuges the water out of the food. Water goes down the drain like normal, food collects in a little removable bin/cup. Food is now ideal size for little worm mouths. You can turn it on and off, so when things like meat and such go down you don't have to collect it.

Seems like a pretty good idea, you don't have to keep a kitchen bin. You can put everything down the sink and its all easily grounded up. Especially when you have a wife (like me) who doesn't like separating stuff.

So if anybody has used one, and now, knows where to get one, please let me know. Thanks!

Re:Under-sink food separator - 2008/01/10 22:28 did you find this thing again???
My husbands a plummer and says that an in line trap and valve would do same thing probabley cheaper also
he says like a drum trap like they use in beauty shops to catch the hair.. keep thinking it through you might be on to a cheaper marketable invention

Re:Under-sink food separator - 2008/01/11 19:42 No, they messaged back and said they couldn't find it in their records. And I can't find it anywhere online, and I usually can find damn near ANYTHING! I did find a Japanese version that was bigger and looked pretty cool. Might have to e-mail one of my buddies in Japan and see how much they cost.

I'll have to wander over to Lowe's (twist my arm) and see what they have in plumbing that I could concoct. Won't be this weekend, folks are coming into town and taking my rugrat for a few weeks.

I'll be sure to let you know what I come up with.

Yeah, I had seen one of your other posts mentioning that. I might have room for one, but thats about it. What do you cover it with?

No time now though. I'm Air Force and we're doing an exercise (where we play our war games). Which basically means 12+ hour shifts, and I just finished mine. Off to bed!

Re:Under-sink food separator - 2008/01/26 01:32 mine are inside dont have to cover with anything
but sometimes i will cover with news paper layers
I am experimenting to see if eggs hatch better in the dark cause I usually leave lights on cause I overstuff tubs to make them grow bigger for bait 12000/15000 per tub with that many in there they want to crawl. have accidently turned lights off before nothing like waking up at 5 in am and have to pick up 10000 worms up off concrete floor boy do thoose buggers travel fast and are every place you dont even imagine them to be lifted up washing machine had big bunch underneath it.any way a 1/4 in plywood cut to fit or something light should work
paint plywood to help keep it waterproof from rain
places usually have cans of oops paint for cheap

did you get time to check out plumbing supply yet??
