business needs - 2008/01/30 17:11 Hello,

I am a long ways away from being able to sell any kind of product from my worm farm, but i was trying to look up any kind of licencing i would need and haven't had any luck. So i was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction. I live in Arizona. So i am trying to figure out if i would need any kind of special licence to sell, breed, or anything like that. Any king of help would be great.

Thank you very much,

Nathan

Re:business needs - 2008/01/30 22:48 Since this is the beginning of the year you get a free ride for a long time . As far as a license you shouldn't need any until you are about to really sell anything . Unless you want a sales tax number to avoid paying tax for resale items you should still be cool . Even if you sell a little you are probably under the radar . When you finally do get to a point where taxes , licenses etc. become a consideration the IRS should still have a "hobby income" status . You spend $200 and sell $250 worth of stuff . You have $50 income . You spend $300 and sell $200 you can write off $100 for a limited time . That is if you itemize . If you are just now starting off you are still small potatoes and will remain such for quite a while . If you need to do anything you might consider bartering . Good luck . Tom

Re:business needs - 2008/01/30 23:32 Every city/state is different, but a business license here only costs $20. And you can write it off . And you get to itemize all the stuff you would get anyway. Bins, worms, and costs to maintain them, dinner when you take your friends, i mean clients , out and talk about worms. -:Mark:-

Re:business needs - 2008/01/31 08:43 You might also want to check with your local extension office. They may be able to help point you in the right direction. We Are WORM - Resistance Is Futile!

Re:business needs - 2008/01/31 10:36 Nathan, after rereading your post maybe you're asking for worm specific license and such. I think there's ways to get your castings tested and get organically certified and such, but I also have read on here there's ways around it. Redhen, Gary, Wells or somebody who sells would be able to help you, just wait, they'll post. I've read somewhere on here where somebody sells it as soil additive or enricher instead of organic fertilizer. Same stuff, you just don't pay for the cert. You can also check with your City/County or their website and see what restrictions are for composting and such. Hope this helps a little. Hopefully the smarter folks will chime in shortly for ya. -:Mark:-
