whats the scoop - 2008/02/16 10:36 hi Macnab:
will the website continue?
You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it
doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does,
use the duct tape.

Re:whats the scoop - 2008/02/18 20:28 Maybe I'm not quite seeing the whole scope of what Worm Digest does. Magazine and a forum right?

Why not just go to a digital magazine? No print, wouldn't even need an office, work from home, earth friendly'er, same outcome for the readers. All of us have a computer anyway.

The forum. It doesn't take much to run a forum. The lack of response shows its not monitored daily...weekly/monthly for that matter. The forum basically runs itself.

I've never seen the magazine. I came along when there was talk of "is there ever going to be another one", so I didn't offer up any cash. Especially when I get a ton of information on the forums.

Advertisements. What if there was a retailer section in the forum. A place where Susan, Dave and others could put there stuff out there and pay a small fee for advertisements. This could be seperate or tie into banner ads. Joomla (which is this they're using) has a banner thing built in. See up there where it says Humans Best Friends or Teens love the new fashions. That could say Wormman.com, or Squirmanwormfarm.com or whatever. Google Ads.

Its probably more complicated than what we, especially newbies such as myself, see from the outside. But there's a fairly large faithful following that is always happy to help. So a little word and we may be able to help out whatever the problem is.

On a side note. I have my lil family website, with little hits and a crap load of space and bw. I could register another name and run it off my main account with no extra out of pocket. I have experience with the backends of forums, Joomla and other built up community programs. I like doing stuff like this. Just puttig that out there.

Re:whats the scoop - 2008/02/18 20:59 Thanks for the input Mark. That is just what I was trying to express in my last post over here.

I dont think I was here very long before you were.

I dont have a lot of experience with the forum side of things. But I do have a lot of online business experience. I am an Internet Manager at a new car dealer and my wife runs an eBay site.

I have often wondered why there was not digital version of the mag. Especially with all of us here actively comminicating...

Re:whats the scoop - 2008/02/18 22:18 EarthWorm Digest is very happy and proud to be offering this site as a forum to all interested in the environment and earthworms. We are extremely happy that there are so many active participants in the forums.
The administrator is a multi multi tasker and there are those who are trying to catch up! (ahem) I myself was with Mr. Melvin at the 17th Annual United States Composting Conference in California where he presented to a wonderfully enthusiastic crowd of composters (over 1000 attendees) about adding the earthworm component to a city's desire of creating black gold out of organics otherwise destined for landfill. Preparation for the presentation kept me from the final touches necessary for completion of this Winter's EarthWorm Digest, but it will be available in print and digital form shortly.
I do apologize for the delay. As Jerry mentioned, there have been many other things going on in our little area of town that have been diverting time and attention.
Then I must say there is some finger pointing at some young ladies for leaving our offices by choosing to go to college full time and probably a little bit my fault for not delegating more tasks to others for help with the magazine's final draft.
The digital version of the magazine has always been offered since the administrator moved the offices from Oregon to Cleveland. In fact, we have Jerry to thank with help in scanning many of the past issues! The past issues are still available and a new print and digital magazine will be ready before long.
The concern of the participants in the forum is very much appreciated. Keep up your lively communications!
The articles that are collected and already on the website are without parallel amongst earthworm websites. I wonder why there is not more talk about what's reported about vermicomposting via the international articles accessible on the home page...
But, I hope there will be many subscribers most
pleasantly pleased to be receiving the next original issue very soon!

Re:whats the scoop - 2008/02/18 22:23 Hell you could take each months of posts and put it into a monthly digital magazine. Every week there's a plethora of info. I had read your post and was going to reply there, but decided to put it over here.

Must have posted at the same time. Didn't see your post above. Glad to see WD finally putting us straight. Glad you guys are doing well!
