Private Messaging - 2007/12/22 19:07 Could you install a PM component. I use JIM, incorporated with FireBoard. They have integration with Joomlaboard (which you use). It allows direct contact between members without having to post threads, and without compromising user's e-mail addr.

For example. In a post, there was somebody who said they're about an hour away. I didn't have a way to contact the individual so I had to post my e-mail addr and the user contacted me that way. With a PM I could have just msged over and he could have chosen to msg back or not, and I wouldn't have had to show everybody my e-mail.

I'm not familiar with Joomlaboard, but like Fireboard, a lot of these integrated boards don't have the full features that full boards have (Invision, PHPBB, SM...something). Unfortunately.

If you want to take a look at mine, its http://meinc.us. Thanks!

I'll check with Dave this week about adding the PM component to the site.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/18 22:56 Sweet! Thanks for the reply.

Other contact info would be good too, messenger, and e-mail(if the user wants to show it). Most sites have your location listed under their name (a commonly asked question).

Feel free to e-mail if you have any questions on it. I run Joomla on my site. Thanks again for the reply.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 08:34 A private messaging component has been installed.

You will see a little "private messages" section on the left hand navbar now up above the main menu.

To you use, click on "private messages". It'll give you a form to fill out that asks for the username of the person you want to send a note to and the contents of your message.

That is it. Pretty straight forward.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 08:48 Thats not private messenging for us. Thats PM for you, the admins. When I click it, it says "Not quthorized", but it probably works for you.

You need to add PM's, not thru Joomla, but rather thru Joomla Board. I don't think Joomla Board has it built in, so you'll need to install a component. Something like JIM or the such.

But thanks for trying to appease. Much appreciated.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 09:04 It should be working now. I had to adjust the permissions on it. "My job is to shrink heads, not swell them." --O'Mara

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 09:07 I have yet to find a PM module that works through joomlaboard that both works and doesn't suck. So for the moment, we are out of luck with having a link within joomlaboard. "My job is to shrink heads, not swell them." --O'Mara

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 09:13 Ran into the first problem. How do you PM people? You can't click on them in the Forums. And there's no member database to pick off from. As an admin you have a list and can click at will. But we can't. So its good if you want to directly talk to somebody, but for us, we can't use it.

I don't think there's a way to hide it until you have a message.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 09:25 I don't have a list to choose from.

I go over to PM, and click on "compose".

Then I type the user's name into the TO: box.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 09:31 The autofill works nicely. That will help out. Thanks!

I thought you were doing the PM from the Admin menu, before I saw the compose. In your Admin you have Home, then from there you have User Listing, or something of the sort.

Re:Private Messaging - 2008/02/19 14:30 You can also PM to multiple users. Just seperate their name with a comma (,) -:Mark:-
