Lethargic ENCs - 2008/04/10 12:16 We have noticed that our ENCs are lethargic. So I was hoping someone might have some ideas as to why. We are raising them for composting as well as for fishing bait. Our bins are approx. 12' long x 2' wide and 1-1/2 deep. We have dirt in the bottom. Somewhere we read that they need actual dirt to clean themselves. Figured it wouldn't hurt them. The rest is some peat moss and cow manure. We also feed wheat bran, crushed corn, silage and some old hay and straw. They seem to be growing and multiplying fine. They just seem to be inactive.

If anyone has any ideas we would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

you did not mention what temperature the bin is at. It is too cool, they will be lethargic, if it's too hot they will either die or try to escape. Just make sure it's moist enough. Keep an eye on it. Don't forget to Wash the sawdust out of your eye as it can be painful.

Re:Lethargic ENCs - 2008/04/10 17:31 Check the moisture. Too much or too little will do the same thing. www.wormcrusader.com

Re:Lethargic ENCs - 2008/04/11 09:20 Thanks for the information. Our bins do seem a little on the cold side. Will check actual temp. later today. I do think though that they are too wet. Though our ef's are much more lively in similar conditions. I am going to set up a couple of totes and experiment with temp. and dryer conditions and see if that answers our problem. If not will have to do some further checking. Thanks again for your help. And, have to say love this forum, lots of good helpful information.

Re:Lethargic ENCs - 2008/04/11 13:32 I found that once I took the Gameboy, TV, and Wii away from them and forced them to go outside and play they had more energy. At least they are off the couch...

Energyless
Nonmoving
Children

sorry I guess I was talking about the wrong ENCs.
