Help Ants in Compost pile for worms - 2008/05/04 22:53 First off I believed I read that by the Department of Agriculture- anything produced using manure (horse or cow) the manure had to be composted to a temperature
of 131 degrees for 3 days to kill all possible pathogens. Is that true? So we were composting the horse/cow manure to that temp at least before using it in the worm beds. Is that good or wasted effort.

second Now I have ANTS in the compost how do I get rid of them before I move the compost over to the worm bins?
Help please.

Re:Help Ants in Compost pile for worms - 2008/05/05 07:08 Ah I hate ants! Might try some ant bait or something.

As for composting, I think everyone should read The Humanure Handbook and get ready for a whole new thought process

Re:Help Ants in Compost pile for worms - 2008/05/05 21:47 I just had ants. Add water to the bedding or in your case the compost pile. Ants don't like wet conditions.

Hope this helps.

Re:Help Ants in Compost pile for worms - 2008/05/05 22:40 THANKS I'll give that a try,

but noW
my question about what I read from the
Depart of Agri about any materials used
such as horse/cow manure for agriculture
must be composted to a temp of 131 degrees
for 3 days is that accurate or not. If I plan to
sell compost or Tea don't I need to follow that guideline? HELP ....HELP....
