several questions in one - 2008/05/04 22:39 I got my beginner worms about a year ago. I put them in a small foam container and they did well. There were things in there during the summer that seemed dark gray or black depending on the color of what it was in. Another member asked a question about something that looks like that and she was told that it would probably some kind of larva. So I looked for something to fly away and it never did. When I would put in new food, it would get jet propelled and go through that food in nothing flat and the slow down when there was no more food there. It came about when the temperature was warm and disappeared around October when it cooled down and was gone all winter. Now that it has started to warm up, I see it coming back.
2nd, I decided it was time to move my worms to a larger container. Put bedding and some food in, watered and let it set for about a month or so. Attempted to separate the worms from their casting, but in doing so I saw so many small immature worms and little pearls, I decided to put everything into the new setting. Yesterday I looked to determine how the worms were doing in their new environment and saw something that I have never seen before. Looked it up on the Internet... it was an "Orange headed Cockroach".

Know that I did not minutely describe the first whatever it is; but does that sound familiar to anyone? Secondly, Is there a best time to harvest castings? Third, Does anyone know if I need to be concerned about this cockroach? In the larger container the worms were moved to a green house that I am not using for any thing else at the moment.

Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Re:several questions in one - 2008/05/06 09:49 Thanks you, Redhen... That is a great site and you are perfectly right. That is exactly what they look like. I don't ever remember anything flying off, but they must have. I have learned several things from going there. Thanks again.
