Brown and Green - 2008/05/07 20:01 A couple of days ago I made a change in my plastic worm bin . I took a gallon of well washed goat manure and along with water mixed it to the consistancy of mud . I mixed it with the shredded paper bedding (already in place) and covered it up . 2 days later I checked it out and those little wigglers seem to be unable to get enough of it . They are on , under , inside and all around that stuff . They are also not bothered as they once were of being uncovered . They used to disappear for a day when exposed . Now they come back in a little while . Soooo I'm thinking about mixing shredded newspaper and goat manure for bedding in a bigger wooden bin . Hence my question . They seem to "tolerate" coffee grounds so even if they do eat "some" I'm thinking that all this food is "brown". I seem to have read or heard that they need "green" as well . So I'm thinking that lettuce and other fruits and veggies need to be fed to them as well . The program in my mind (alleged) is to feed those green items and wait a few days inbetween so they can also feast on the abundant bedding . The way I have seen them react to apples and other fruits they will be in hog heaven with that food all around them .Any ideas , thoughts , advice , large cash donations ...... OK , no cash BUT any other help will be greatly appreciated . Tom

Re:Brown and Green - 2008/05/07 20:21 Believe it or not, coffee grounds are a green in the composting scheme of things. Y'all have fun, whatever you're doing.

Re:Brown and Green - 2008/05/07 23:27 So do you think that I should make the grounds part of the mixture or put them in as a food source in a big clump ? Tom
