First Bin , Worms are here now , Got a Question - 2008/08/09 11:43 The worms came a little quicker than i had anticipated, So i took two rubbermaid totes.

And drilled holes ---> ( ) <--- About that big.

About 200 or 300 on the bottom, and about 100 on each of the 4 sides. Bottom kinda looks like a strainer.

I placed , some bat guano , seabird guano, Organic humus (cow manure) about 5 or 6 coffee filters with coffee grinds 1/4 an apple chopped into peices and Oh yeah i sprinkled a little bit of soiless mix (pro mix) on top of the bedding before placing the bios in.

The Newspaper was stripped into about 1 inch strips and i did a bunch of them, almost half the bin full (wet) a little less then halfway though.

I placed them into the sink and then soaked them.
I let them sit in the sink for about an hour to drain picked them up and tried to ring them dry but didnt need to. They where wet but not dripping anymore.

Okay so now they are int he bin , i checked on them today and i noticed one going out of a hole.

So i lifted the bin out of the other bin, and there where about 50 worms inside the other bin.

I got most of them back into the other bin, but im guessing they will come back out.

Is this normal ? Will they find there way back to the food ?

Thanks.

Re:First Bin , Worms are here now , Got a Question - 2008/08/09 16:18 I have two bins stacked and I find the same thing. I believe they are doing important worm stuff. They will find the food. They're good like that.

Re:First Bin , Worms are here now , Got a Question - 2008/08/09 19:02 The little guys are just exploring their new home and lack of food. while you have foosd inthere, most of it has not decomposed enough for them to dig right in. Its kinda like giving a steak to someone with no teeth.

I would find some good rotting food to drop in there and let them go to town, that will keep them from wandering.

Also, be careful with too much food, it could create too much moisture. New bins will take a bit to get going, so be patient and do not overfeed.

Good luck
