junk mail plastic - 2008/08/31 13:48 My friend will not use my castings in her vegetable garden because I use shredded junk mail in my bin . This means I have lots of shredded envelope windows in my bin, which I don't usually remove until I harvest castings. My friend also thinks this disqualifies these castings from being called ORGANIC.
What do you think?

Re:junk mail plastic - 2008/08/31 19:31 The castings most definitely are organic no matter what is mixed in there that is not.
I get those envelope windows, stickers from produce, rubberbands and such in my VC but just sift it out before using.

Re:junk mail plastic - 2008/08/31 21:12 I bet that most of the "organic" castings sold every day are produced in a bin of all plastic or containing a big part of plastic. I think some people get carried away with the "Organic" concept in their own minds. Like a friend of mine who told me that with me using only manure, compost, cottonseed meal, bloodmeal, etc. in my garden that since I use a tractor with rubber tires and burning diesel that it's not organic. I didn't even get into that one with him as he's a fruitcake in my opinion anyway and knows everything about organics and natural, healthy foods while shoveling in lortabs at the same time, go figure!

Re:junk mail plastic - 2008/08/31 22:33 Lord, love a duck! Your friend sounds like my co-worker. She had a hissy fit about my using cardboard in my gardens and worm bins. "Those boxes come from China now, and they are permeated with poison. Stop using cardboard boxes!" She's such an alarmist knucklehead.

zakly!
Nancy, if your neighbor don't like your not quite right vc, use it yourself &/or share it with somebody who appreciates it for what it is.
Then you can sweetly offer your naybor a taste of one of your "non-organic" veggies .
Y'all have fun, whatever you're doing.
