successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/08/31 01:25 Just curious if any of you out there have preferred methods of marketing your worms. I intend to sell off a website when I'm ready to start selling. Any other suggestions?

Re:successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/09/04 18:54 Larry I guess that it will depend a lot on your particular circumstances. Your area and potential customer base there for the type of worm(s) that you are offering and whether you are mainly going after the vermicomposting market, the bait market or something else if you can develop or tap into another worm use. I haven't ever used the net for that purpose but it's something that I may be looking at soon myself.

Re:successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/09/04 20:17 Timnbama,

Thanks, I'm planning on the vermicomposting market first off. Just thought I might pick up on marketing ideas such as whether ads in gardening magazines are worth trying, people's successes or failures in other advertising, etc. Around here, vermicomposting is a big thing that is being taught by Master Gardeners - but two of them told me they're not sure where to send their students to buy composting worms. I'll have to give them some coupons to pass out at their workshops

Re:successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/09/04 23:36 There is a good idea. If you agree to take a bin of worms and help at one of the gardening classes that might help you as well. The magazines might pay with the right publication and the correct choice of wording. By all means stay away from the the business angle in that type of ad, you should be selling an enviromental service, vermicomposting, etc. I imagine a lot of people still have a foul taste in their mouths from any type of worm ad much less from any that even hints of making money, etc.

Re:successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/09/05 07:58 Larry I'll offer you piece of advice: if you do go with a web page respond to your inquiries as soon as you can, don't wait days or a couple of weeks to answer them as some people do. I've got one order with 1 company now that's been gone for 2 weeks and have sent the 2nd email to see if it arrived there or not. Can't get an answer to the emails so a bigger order that I was planning on placing with them will go somewhere else for sure.

Re:successful advertising methods for selling worms? - 2008/09/05 13:44 I definitely agree! Over the course of two weeks, I had e-mailed a large worm farm about an hour away, two times and then also left a voice mail. Never did get any response from them. Thought I could save shipping costs on breeding stock by picking them up. Obviously, I'm going elsewhere.

I did find that Uncle Jim's worm farm charges $16 per pound with free shipping on their wholesale pricing.
