Coffee grinder for egg shells - 2009/01/16 12:52 Worm Wrangler,

Saw your idea on another thread. I tried it and it worked great! After the shells were dry, I crunched them up into small flakes with my hand first and then poured them into the grinder. Turned them in to a nice powder. Thanks for the idea

Larry

PS - Okay now that I'm collecting eggshells for my worms, what are the benefits of adding it? Can you add too much? And when it is fine ground, will it completely disappear and not show in the castings?

Re:Coffee grinder for egg shells - 2009/01/16 15:20 Eggshells are about 95-97% calcium carbonate which will reduce the amount of acid in the soil.

Re:Coffee grinder for egg shells - 2009/01/17 07:43 I have seen some white specs in my finished castings but not much although I never really inspected closely for them.

I add a half cup 2 or 3 times thru the growing cycle usually when I turn the bin contents. I add a cup of lime to my containers of tomatoes and other veggies each yr so I figure can't be much different btwn the two. If you don't get a more definitive answer I would think a google search for what constitutes too much powdered egg shell or lime would give you the answer you seek.
