Vermicomposting Pilot for Dairy Farms - 2006/01/24 05:11 Hello to all from the Holy Land.
After several years of research, I am about to set up a pilot project for commercial vermicomposting of dairy manure.
So far I have focused on e. foetida, as these are available locally and have started negotiations with a kibbutz dairy with 1,000 milch cows. I have designed a modular CFS (well, I am still working on the collection scraper unit - but that's details) and am planning to start small with a goal to be able to handle the entire herd within 2-3 years.
I am, of course, just at the beginning of identifying markets that can handle industrial quantities of vermicompost.

To introduce myself, I am 50 and have worked in hi-tech since 1994, and am a certified Quality Manager. I was a farmer before going to school (screwed up my back on the tractors).
The time has come for a significant change in life, and I have been looking at environmental industries as the way I want to go.

I will probably have to be in the US to look at some operating units and talk to some pros (Dr. Clive and others).

I would really appreciate any leads to similar units, ideas and a forum with whom I can discuss the issues I stumble on.
