used mice bedding okay for worm food? - 2009/03/16 23:50 I have two questions here. Both on animal bedding as food for the worms.

I raise some mice and have dirty bedding quite frequently.
I use shredded aspen for bedding, and the mice dirty it pretty quickly.
The fact that they have high ammonia in their unine is prompting me to ask if it is alright to use as feed for the worms.

I also have snake bedding, shredded aspen, who'da thunk I'd have snake and mice bedding in the same location...
I would assume the snake bedding would be better to use in the worm bins, but maybe it has some kind of stuff that worms don't cotton to, what's the verdict?

Re:used mice bedding okay for worm food? - 2009/04/02 07:41 Hi nasty bugger...

First I tell U my english not good

I leave in Thailand and I raise mice too. I use sawdust as mice bedding and change it once a week. after I change sawdust I compost it(mix with molasses, rice bran) for a month after it cool down no smell of ammonia and turn black, then I use it as worm bedding in my worm bin.

this is the third day I compost mice bedding

When the temperature drop to room temp I add the compost to my worm bin. at this point the compost no smell of ammonia and turn black.
