Newbie with questions - 2009/05/05 23:13 Hello all! I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I started a 3-bin vermicompost system about 2-3 months ago.
I was only able to find clear bins to use. So, I tried to cover it with contact paper as much as I could and drilled several holes on all sides, top, and bottom per instructions I found online & in books.
I got 250 red wigglers and added them with some dirt and moist newspapers. I've tried not to over feed and keep the moisture level like a "wrung out sponge." However, my worms do not want to stay in the bedding. If I turn the lights out, they all migrate to the top and try to escape!
Any clues?
They have definitely been doing their job and I have some nice looking compost, no odor, not much condensation on the lid or bottom bin, but I'd like to turn the lights out.
Please let me know what you think would help.
Sorry for the long post & Thanking you all in advance!
