 Re:Lets post pictures... - 2009/05/05 20:27 This is in my long barn. Up front is a concrete minnow vat that I've made in the past couple of days and in behind it is two racks with 2 worm bins each. The back two are stocked with African nightcrawlers and the front two are stocked with Europeans. The worm bins are 3'x7' amd made of poplar waxed on the inside with a corrugated tin bottom.

I'm going to seal the inside with a paint on chlorinated rubber liner, better known as swimming pool paint. It is going to be white as there's seems to be about a $30 per gal. difference between the white and the light blue that was my first choice.

Tim,

I've been strictly expanding my red worm stock since last fall, but am thinking of starting one bin of nightcrawlers (ENCs? maybe) Thought I might stock it with a small amount and let it slowly multiply while marketing the reds first and then eventually get into selling bait worms. How much do you expect to harvest per month per bed? Just trying to get an idea of profit potential on a smaller scale.

I've sold quite a few cups of worms already as well as some in bulk to those with bigger ambitions than they have time to fish for. The reds and the ENCs are doing the best and the glow worms are starting to catch on a little better at times. Some people are buying 14 to 18 cups at a time so about all I have time for is count, close up the lids and label. Now I've got 7 more block cores to finish pouring concrete into and all of the cores will be reinforced and concreted. This has been a job for sure and my back hasn't quit hurting since Sunday. My nephew is all excited about having a minnow vat there with the worms and he's already figured out how many fish it will hold. He really gets excited when he gets to pick up the money from the sales and count it.

My back is killing me, back to the chiro tomorrow for sure. Let's see, 15- 4"x16"x16" blocks, 56 cinder blocks, 5 bags mortar mix, 15 60 lb. bags quikcrete, then still have to buy the pool paint and some type of filtration system. I have the aerator on hand, actually a pump like one that I had hooked up a few years ago in an old freezer. They were on sale so I bought 2 and still have one unopened in the box.

 Re:Lets post pictures... - 2009/05/07 17:31 Big Tex, They're just stored in those flats. Makes them easier to count into cups. 40 dozen to a flat. Stored in my cooler to slow them down on their eating.

Canadian Crawlers I keep in them and they are made out of styrofoam.
