Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/11 23:20 Ordered 3lbs of Belgium Nightcrawlers about 2 months ago. Had a bin set up for them and was not home when they came. Had the wife put them in the bin as i was away working. Things were going good for them, the bin was good. the problem came about when I started to sell them.As I know how many worms go in a bag and how many
bags I sell. After bagging up 50 bags today, I counted the worms I had left. The total # came to 1035 worms.
So even if I lost , say 100, which I do not think I did,
that would make the count 1135 to 1150. Is this light for 3 lbs of Belgium,s or am I just way off here.
Thank you

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 06:12 If you purchased bedrun worms you should have more. If you bought nothing but mature worms it could be close to that count. Large mature euros will be appox. 4-5 hundred a pound. So you could be a little lite. However, not as bad as some I have heard about.

Let me suggest going back to where you bought them and talk to your supplier. Most will try to correct any mistakes you feel have happened. The bigger suppliers sometime get in a hurry to fill an order.Resulting in some errors. As I said before most will correct any mistakes.
If you have a scale see how many it takes of your worms to make a pound. Even a quarter pound then do the math. After the first order I did a few years ago I invested in a small scale. You can get a pretty good scale for around thirty-five dollars.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 08:21 Thanks Digger51
I have another order coming in next week from the same person. I will for sure be putting them on a scale.
They were all mature worms, so at 4 to 5 hundred a lb
it is not so bad. I can see being a little light once in awhile. these things happen as you say. But I will be checking from now on to be sure.I really like the the guy I deal with and this is the frist time anything has ever happen to make me doult him. I tend to trust people to much sometimes .
Thanks for your input.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 20:43 I think I know what you're talking about as I know that I got ripped off by buying on the count instead of the weight. I'll never do that again and I don't think that the worms should die off every day. When you have 45 beds set up and they all do good except for the ones that came in and they are dying from day one and continue to die that's a problem. If I buy 5000 and put 36 to the cup for 44 cups and 24 for 8 cups plus 2 orders of 250 each and they are gone after that other than a handful of babies I'd say that I missed the elevator and got the shaft. Should I ever decide to order by the count again I will count them one by one when they arrive.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 21:18 Well we all learned a lesson here. check your order.
Mine were all mature worms so I was wrong in thinking I got ripped off. Still seems a little light but i can live with that. A little light can happen as they are all busy, but I will be checking all orders from now on.
Wow 36 to a cup. How much do you sell a cup for, if you don't mine me asking. Up here we use bags. 4''x 6''
12 worms to a bag. $3.00 per bag. Takes me 1 hr. to bag up 25 bags. Bags cost $.05 or less each depending where you get them. Is this good?? Let me know. And these are the Begiums. the Red Wigglers we sell for $2.50 a bag of 12. Just did a order today for 50 bags of Belgiums.
Nice little order.
Thanks for your reply.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 22:14 Bags? Where are you at? Down here in Alabama I don't think you could sell a bag of worms. The usual is about $3.00 up or down a little in most stores around here now for a cup of worms. Sounds like I need your market area if you're getting $3.00 for a doz. worms.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/12 23:38 Hi Timnbama. I am up in Albeta Canada. And yes that is what we charge for a bag of 12 worms. and that is wholesale to the stores. they retail for $4.49 for a bag of 12 Reds and $4.79 for a bag of Belgiums or dew worms. And with the long weelend up here this weekend it should be a good weekend for sales.
Frank.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/13 06:46 Wow, you must have some dedicated fishermen up there to pay those prices. That would make my day if they were that high down here but the weather is too conducive for raising them I guess. All I can tell you is to enjoy it and I wish you a good season with it.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/13 21:21 A bag of 12 worms for $4.49 and up. Wow! I help my father operate a convenience store in Georgia that sells bait and if there is less than 15 worms in a cup, people will complain. We sell redwigglers(50-100 per cup) for $2.75, Jumpers(40 per cup) for $3. These are both retail prices. I might need to move.

Re:Am I being Ripped off here. please help. - 2009/05/13 23:06 Yes there is a good dollar to be made up here.In the last month I sold $450.00 worth just to one store.
Got a few calls to make to other stores in town to try and get them to buy from me . I,m sure they will as I am local and the person who sells to them now is knid of hit and miss.Hoping by this time next year it has become a full time job for me. besides everyone up here is getting laid off work, so they are all going fishing,
