In Ground Bin - 2006/02/10 11:13 I am wanting to start an outside ben and I need a little advice. I have been raising worms indoors now for awhile and love it so much that I want to also raise them outdoors. I didnt relize how much they can eat. I was thinking a 4' X 8' benn for outside. I have plenty of ceterblocks for the walls. What should I use to seperate the ground from the bin? also what type of bedding should I use for outdoors? also how many worms can a bin this size hold? I will be using composted cow manure for food suplimented with whatever I have at the time.

I use alfalfa pellets in a tea for my gardne and was wondering if I could feed the leftover to the worms?

Yes you can put the left overs in your bins i soak the pullets and spread it on top.Does the tea work good on your garden?I know that alfalfa meal works good.

Re:In Ground Bin - 2006/02/11 10:08 Joe, Gary and Susan hyave a good thread going on this forum doing just what you want to do. Hardware cloth will keep moles from getting into your worms on the bottom..I like to start a bin with 1# of worms per square foot of space...what it'll hold can be cosiderably more...Seeya, Bob www.trinity-ranch.com

Re:In Ground Bin - 2006/02/11 20:03 one pound per square foot. That sounds good thanks for the info. I will look up the post you are talking about and see what they are doing. What is a good bedding for an outdoor ben? Thanks again Joe Happy Farmin
