A question about worms - 2006/05/13 07:02 Hello this is my first visit to your forums,

My father who is a naturalist recieved a letter asking the following question,

I was in my garden a couple of weeks ago and saw what I can only describe as a skein of worms. they appeared to be dead, I left them thinking the seagulls would eat them but they left the alone. The skein was about 14 inches long and consisted of over 50 worms, can you tell me what the cause of this is ?

As neither of us now much about earthworms specifically
I thought I would try asking here (I apologize if this topic has come up before, I couldn't seen it in the archives)
